Can't update NY Times or sync when using Game Center
I've been using the Stand Alone leader board for a long time. I'd like to try using Game Center, but enabling it seems to introduce two problems:
1) NY Times puzzles stop updating, saying "Connection Problem. There was a connection problem. Pleas double check your account information." Validating my correct NY Times credentials fails, but when I switch back to the Stand Alone leader board, it works again.
2) While Game Center is enabled, I can't setup sync. Tapping Setup prompts me to create a password, but it responds with "Validation failed: name has already been taken." I'm not sure what this means.

Some particulars: this happens on iOS 5, and I see the same behavior on both my iPhone 4 and iPad 1. I'm using the latest version of Crosswords, 2.29.

Can you send us your Game Center nickname, so we can check if this is a server issue? Thanks!

How long have you had your Game Center account? Did you just sign up for it, or have you had it since Game Center launched?

Hmm, it's not brand new. I tinkered with it when it launched, or shortly after, I believe.

Do you only download New York Times puzzles? If not, when you enable Game Center, are you able to download any puzzles at all?
It's possible that deleting and re-installing the app will reset your settings and fix the problem, if you'd like to try that. However, please note that it will also delete all of your current puzzles and puzzle progress.

I've tried deleting and reinstalling the app many times, but it doesn't seem to fix the problem.
A clue: after I delete the app (I hold the app icon until it wiggles, press the X, confirm that I want it removed from Game Center) and then reinstall (via App store), after I open the newly installed app, my puzzles are gone of course, but my login info for the Stand Alone leader board is still there (where is it getting that?). My email address and password are filled in, but not the nickname. AND my login info for the NY Times is still there after reinstall. Are those details expected to persist after the app has been deleted? (Is the iPad getting info from your server? My iPhone?)
When Game Center is enabled, I can't download puzzles from any provider. If I uncheck NY Times premium puzzles, go to the puzzle list, and hit refresh, I get the same "Connection Problem" alert.
I fiddled with the UI for the Stand Alone leader board and got it to ask me if I wanted to remove my account. But that hasn't helped.
It seems odd that all of these things effect each other. I really wish I could totally clear all state and start fresh, since presumably other users don't have this problem.

We're currently looking into this issue. Concerning why your authentication details remain after you delete the app, this is because they're added to the keychain in your device. Unfortunately, for now, our only available workaround is that you continue to use your Crosswords Account instead of a Game Center Account in Crosswords. Sorry!

We've tweaked a few things on our server that may have resolved this issue for you. If you're still having problems using your Game Center account, please let us know. Thanks!

Everything seems to be working. Thanks, and nice job! I've been able to use Game Center for leader boards, NY Times premium puzzles, and sync between iPad and iPhone, with no trouble.
