Skip Filled Squares on Crosswords
The Skip Filled Squares feature has stopped working on my HTC Desire HD.
It had been working well for several months then stopped. I have also recently purchased a Toshiba Tablet - it also does not work on it.

You can use Command ⌘ instead of Control ^ on Mac

Keith,
Are the characters gray? There is a pen/pencil button int he bottom left of the keyboard. If you accidentally turned pencil on, this would be an effect.
