Crosswords Accessibility question -Voice Over
Hi,
I'd like to say straight away that i love the crosswords app on
both my android and apple devices :) I would dearly love my
visually impaired partner to be able to use crosswords on her ipad
but i can't see any support for the voice over feature. Am i just
missing something or is it not available ? If it isn't currently
available, is it a planned enhancement ?
Thanks
Keith

Keith,
I'm not real sure how we could add a usable level of accessibility to Crosswords. Since you need to know the puzzle clue, the filled letters, and intersecting words, I think you'd get overwhelmed when trying to get accessibility info. Does that make sense?

Hi Ben,
Thanks for your reply. I'm always surprised by what my partner can do with her limited sight and the iPad - she's a demon with Voice Over and Zoom and I suspect that involves the same level of information overload :)
I'm not at all technical in these matters but allowing Voiceover to just read text that is selected would be all that she would require, it would be up to her to 'join the dots' and relate what is on the screen, probably with a combination of both voice over and zoom/magnify. Would it be possible to allow voiceover to read clues, menus and and selected puzzle squares (not incomplete words or intersections) ? I thought I'd ask :)
As I said, I don't know what the amount of work required would be. If it's too much then I can understand if it's put way down the priority list. A voice over version may certainly be a hit in the niche market of visual accessibility, maybe.
Thanks once again for your reply,
Keith

Keith,
Hmm, that would be doable. It's certainly something we'd like to implement. We're getting ready to release a new version of the app soon, but it will not be a large change. However, I will definitely add this to to the To Do list for our upcoming major revision.
Thanks!
Ben
