(I posted this once already but it appears to have ended up in moderation purgatory.)

A few days ago, Crosswords on iPad 2.25 started crashing immediately on startup, during the splash screen.

A crash log is attached.

Things I have already tried:

  • Force-quit the app by double-tapping the home button.

  • Reboot the iPad.

The 2.26 update makes no difference.

From what I can tell looking at the crash log, if this is a recurring bug, there may be a corruption in your database. Can you try "Send Feedback" from within settings, but hit the blue disclosure button to the right of the text. This will send us your database, and we can check to see if it's corrupt.

    Thanks!

    Hi Ben,

It's worse than recurring, it happens every single time. Hence I can't
"Send Feedback" because I can't reach that part of the application.

I do know how to use iPhone Backup Extractor, though, and I found the
    com.standalone.crosswords.plist file, which I've attached. I didn't
find the actual database file. Can I find it in my backup? I'm not
    jailbroken.

I'm pretty much resigned to uninstalling the app and reinstalling. But
I would like to help you prevent the same crash for other users.

Ugh, that's problematic. If you can locate "Crosswords.db" in the com.standalone.crosswords package using Backup Extractor, that's the puzzle database. Thanks for the assistance!

Found it. (On every other machine I alias 'ls' to 'ls -a', but not this
one, so it wasn't finding the directory starting with dot.)
Documents/.Files/Crosswords.db attached. It seems to open in sqlite3.

Okay, it looks like a puzzle you tried to download on the 19th is causing all the trouble. It's somehow got a corrupt link to a date record. Not sure how that happened, and it doesn't appear that there's anything we can do about it.

We're adding a new feature to the next version of Crosswords that will make it easy for you to replace your puzzle database (so, if this problem happens again, you can email us your database, we'll fix it, and mail it back to you.) Sorry for the trouble, but thanks very much for following up and helping us track this down.

    Ben

Thanks Ben. I look forward to the new feature. Now off to
uninstall-and-reinstall. I only had a couple of puzzles in progress,
    fortunately.
